This is a detour from Mustard’s typical newsletter but they have recently become inspired by Disney Channel sitcom Dog With A Blog. Dog With A Blog takes us through the life of a suburban family known as The Jennings. This family, like most sitcoms, has family members with distinct personalities that set them apart:
Tyler - BMX Bro, secretly good at math
Chloe - free spirited young human, likes to sneak candy
Avery - law abiding citizen, great at fashion, most likely subscribes to
(as everone should even if you are not into fashion)Ellen - standard TV mom, enjoys a good joke
Bennett - standard TV dad, child psychologist, watches professional wrestling when Ellen is not home
Stan - a talking dog with a blog
You read that last bulletin point right. Stan is a talking dog with a blog. Mustard is unsure what platform they use to publish their blog. If they had to guess Mustard feels like Stan would use Wordpress. Wordpress rules. Mustard hopes to at some point export and transfer their work from here to Substack.
With that all said Mustard has learned a lot from Stan. Stan, they would like to retierate, is a talking dog with a blog. If you are considering getting into blogging here are some spoiler-free tips and tricks they have learned watching the series:
1. Blog at Night
The humans in your household will/should be asleep during the evening. Start up your laptop or desktop, pull up your blogging platform of choice, and start writing. Even if you talk to yourself while blogging the humans should not wake up from their sleep. They will think it is a voice of another human, not a talking dog.
2. Dogs are great at photoshop
Seriously. Each blog entry that Stan publishes contains silly photoshopped images pertaining to the events that happened during the day.
3. Your readers think you are just a human playing a dog writing a blog
This one hit home as some humans say.
Nobody suspects that you are actually a dog (or condiment) publishing a blog.
4. Write without the consent of others
Mustard does not agree with this one. If you are sharing a story about someone close to you make sure you have their permission first. Often times Stan writes about events that took place that day without prior approval.
5. Bacon and Poodles
Are two things that Stan really loves. Not sure how they will help you with blogging but they should be taken under consideration.
6. Become a famous celebrity to receive lots of traffic on your blog
Mustard believes this is easier said than done.
Mustard hopes what they’ve learned from this American television program inspires you to create a blog of your own. If you already have a blog maybe you could use or implement some of the strategies that Stan uses. Mustard knows they will be.
